The spirit-world around this world of sense
Floats like an atmosphere, and everywhere
Wafts through these earthly mists and vapours dense
A vital breath of more ethereal air.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
When I picked the image that is the prompt for Revelations at the moment I actually thought it would be something that inspired me to write some fiction but once it became time to create I realised that rather than reaching for words the image had me wanting to reach for my camera
I have played with long exposure image before, most often at Christmas time to create shots like this one, The Ghost of Christmas. Low light and the Christmas lights lend themselves well to playing with long exposure images. I have also created double exposure images but mostly through a combination of camera and editing. I really wanted to see if I could create something in camera that required minimal to no digital editing.
I actually got a few really cool interesting images out of this experiment and I am sure they will appear here over time. One I suspect may well appear around Halloween as it has a haunted weirdness to it that fits the season. In the end I decided to post this one as it captures some the essence of the picture that inspired it. Most notably the smear of read lip-stick.
I am not sure how the original image was created but having played around with long exposure I am fairly certain it is mostly digital work using layered images or a double exposure rather then long exposure. However I have now discovered that my camera actually has a double exposure setting which I have never used so at some point I am going to have to experiment with that too.
