Leaves and roses

“It is the month of June,
The month of leaves and roses,
When pleasant sights salute the eyes,
And pleasant scents the noses.”
~ Nathaniel Parker Willis

For those who are curious about the technical aspects of the image. I took this in my garden on my Canon 7d with a pair of black stockings stretched over the lens. The only editing I have done to it is to adjust the temperature of the image slightly towards the yellows as the stockings had given it a slightly blueish tint that I was not keen on. Apart from that it is exactly as I shot it so you can see the stockings trick really does give the image a lovely softness.

It’s exciting to see your images any day of the week, but I especially enjoy seeing your prompt images. I didn’t get as far as trying this approach with my proper camera (phone snuck in there again) but I think it is something I am going to revisit. Beautiful image as always and it feels like a perfect flowery start to June 🙂

I hope you do. It is definitely worth playing around with and it really simple but gets nice results

I love this image, and am intrigued that the one bunch of flowers seem to be more in focus. In hindsight I think I should’ve attempted an image outside, as I did like the soft focus effect when I tested it with nature shots. Thanks for always challenging us, Molly!

I used a fairly shallow focal point so that only the roses in the foreground are in focus. The stockings just give the whole image that softness they don’t change the focus of the image

I’m glad you wrote about how you made this. It is a stunning image and execution of the prompt, and between the shallow depth of field and the stocking it is completely dreamy. Someday I’d like to make more of a project of image that are very sexy/erotic but that don’t actually show a lot / are subtle in what they show, and this one nails that concept. Love it.

I love that idea, and it is one of my favourite type of sexy images to be honest. The ones that make your imagination work

Such a pretty picture. I love how the flowers in the foreground are so clear, while your lovely soft image is in the background.

Beautiful image as always Molly, and I really enjoyed learning about the technical aspects too, I really must invest in an actual camera! Any recommendations?

I LOVE my Canon and would highly recommend them. It really does depend on your budget. If you let me know what that is then I could point you to some stuff

Wow this has worked so well. I love the way we can see so much more than flowers and leaves but it isn’t clear and obvious. Very subtle and dreamy 🙂

The stocking trick works surprisingly well, if only I’d remembered to buy some new ones in time!

I love the subtlety of this and the focus on the roses…beautiful.

The first image and the one I posted last year was Leaves and Roses and was the rear view. This week you get the front view.
