“In death and truth I see, through blood and fire, now dance with me.” ~ Jay Kristoff, Empire of the Vampire
I know I am all about books at the moment but I have found peace and happiness in disappearing into books. One of my recent discoveries has been Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. The second book in the series is Empire of the Damn and it is rare for a second book in a trilogy to top book one but on this occasion I think that is definitely true.
I am waiting impatiently for book three to be published. According to the authors Instagram, final edits are in progress and publication will be in 2025. I genuinely can’t wait. I am utterly obsessed with this word and Gabriel de León, Dior Lechance and the compelling darkness that is Celene Castia. Yes I have a soft spot for the horror that is Celene.
These books are dark and graphic. This is not a vampire story where the vampires are sparkly. They are most definitely the baddies, apart from maybe Celene, maybe….
I knew a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to use the books as inspiration for my image this week. The Sinful Sunday prompt for November is Dark and Sinister. You couldn’t get two more apt words to describe these books. I wanted to try and recreate Celene but my make up skills are not good enough however Instagram filters helped with the base image and the rest I built myself using multiple images in Snapseed and then in lightroom. I actually have four different edits which I will share at some point but this one and this quote from the book just seemed to fit perfectly.
Happy darkness sweetlings
