“I am forever chasing light. Light turns the ordinary into the magical.” ~ Trent Parke
If ever there was an image that I have taken which fits this quote I think it is this one.
I took this just over a week ago in woodlands near me where I had gone to get an image for lasts Sinful Sunday prompt, Ray of Light, and I also wanted to get something special for this week as it is week 700 of Sinful Sunday.
They moment I saw this image in my camera screen as I clicked back through them I was fairly sure this was going to be the one but once I got home and downloaded it onto my computer I knew for sure. Sometimes you make magic and I think this image is one of those times.
I love how the light is curving across my back and curling round my thigh. It has a serpent look to it although the shape of it on the back of my knee looks like some sort of slight weird gloved hand of a sinister Disney character…. although this is clearly not a Disney appropriate image.
So 700 weeks of Sinful Sunday? I recorded an interview with Girl on the Net this week (It will be up on her Patreon soon) and we talked about this project and I told her in 700 weeks (which is roughly 13 and half years) I have never missed a Sunday. There are over 3500 media files on my blog and the vast majority of them are self portraits. I suspect there are in excess of 3000 of them. She asked me what was my favourite image and I said I could not pick but I have thinking about the question and I feel like the answer is the same to what is the best sex you had or the best kiss, the answer has to be, the next one I am about to have. The next image I am going to take is my favourite, because it is that sense of excitement and possibility, the, anticipation of what I might create in this moment, in this light, in this location, in this mood.
Of course it doesn’t always end up with a great image, sometimes you have to say today is not my day, or the light is wrong or the location is not working but sometimes, like last week, the location, and the light, oh the light, is a gift and the result is something magical. I have been chasing light for years now, and I hope I never stop.
