A pictures from the archives of Molly in red knickers and a chest rope harness around her bare breasts. She is sitting astride a gate with her head thrown back. In the foreground is meadow flowers and in the sky is a soft blue with some white fluffy clouds

“There’s a level at which words are spirit and paper is skin. That’s the fascination of archives. There’s still a bodily trace.” ~ Susan Howe

I have had a note on my to-do list for a very long time now; “Go through image archives.” Every now and then when I have a few minutes spare I work through a few folders, edit any pictures that are good enough and somehow got missed, file others away that have already been posted here but for some reason have stayed in the ‘to be used’ to folder.

This week when I was trying to calm my brain I turned to this task. It is calming and relaxing. There have definitely been times when I have intended to do half and hour or so and suddenly realised 2 or 3 hours have gone by because I have got totally lost in what I am doing.

This week I managed not do that but I did stumble across a series of images I took in meadowland near my old house back in 2014. They made me smile. I remember getting to tie the rope harness before I left home. I remember wearing hiding it beneath a summer dress but feeling really conspicuous as I walked to the fields. I also remember the man with the dog who came by 3 times when I was taking these. I had to just sit in the grass and wait for him to bugger off. I am certain he was trying to catch my eye and I was fairly sure if I let that happen he was gonna use it as an excuse to talk to me. I kept my head down and willed him to give up. He did eventually.

I took a lot of pictures that day. I have posted a couple previously, Summer’s Rope and Tenebrous but I discovered that all the ones I look on this gate have never been shared. I have no idea why, some where along the way they obviously got forgotten about. Now I have rediscovered them maybe I will share some more over the next few weeks and also definitely use some for next years FebPhotoFest. For now I have two favourites this one, and maybe I will share the other one next week.
