“There is a rose in me
In there
Somewhere, amongst the thorns
Do you dare?”
~ N.E. Teeuw
The honest truth is not only do I need someone to dare but I need to dare too. I need to shed some of the thorns the last year or so has grown on me. I need to find my brave pants that I found last summer and be way more rose and way less thorns.

You are a rose and thorns can definitely be a good thing as well as being prickly. Go for it!
Love this image.
Love this image and the way it’s presented. You are a rose and thorns are there to protect you and I’ve never found they get in the way. I hope you get to dare and be dared soon.
It can be difficult to find the brave, I hope you do and are rewarded for it, you beautiful rose you!
Focus on the blooms, not the thorns, the memory of the blooms that have faded and the new year’s blooms to be. The thorns are just a minor inconvenience.
But the most important thing is the annual pruning back to the plant’s core architecture. Dare to prune, like an editor!
As for those thorns, wear gloves!
Then feed with the right fertilizer. In the growing season, manage the pests. In the flowering season, trim the dead-heads and lightly re-prune to encourage continuous flowering.
I prefer the quotation:-
“A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet”
The prickly bits keep those away who are unworthy. Those who dare face the thorns will push through to beauty. Your beauteous soul will draw them past the pain. Their chemistry will be like ambrosia to your senses and the risks will pay off tenfold.
Or so it can go when they take the chance and you say yes.
(Says the man who went with his gut. Learned about her sharp bits and stayed for the unconditional love that flows in both directions. )
I hear you, this past year has made me very prickly, although prickles can be fun too. I’d like to find some of the old me and combine it with the good bits of the new me.
Such a delightful image! I just want to explore those blooms further.
