“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” ~ Elliott Erwitt
Who would have thought moving house would have gifted me the opportunity to create an in camera triptych as opposed to creating one through editing.
I love mirrors and have a lot of them. Moving meant they all had to come down and were propped up against the sofa in my old front room. One day when I was doing my yoga I realised that the full length mirror leaning against the big picture mirror was essentially creating an triptych effect. I slipped out of my yoga kit and reached for my phone. My intention was to take a few practice shots and see how they turned out. Which was why I didn’t move anything in the background. It was just meant to be a test shot to see if it was worth going to get my proper camera. Turns out I didn’t need to, the test shot was the shot.
It is funny now writing this in my new home, looking at this image from my old house. It feels both so familiar and yet completely foreign at the same time. It feels like we have been here weeks when it is actually only 7 days and that house in the picture feels like somewhere I once was. I think it is a good thing.
