“Art is a means of expression that must be understood by everybody, everywhere. It grows out of the earth, the textures of our lives, and our experience.” ~ Rufino Tamayo
I have had this image for a while. Over a year in fact. I took when I was in Miami in September 2019. Have I mentioned the light in Miami was just so beautiful when it came to take images-? Well I am mentioning it now. Outdoors it was definitely harsh but inside, there is just a purity to it that you don’t get this far north, well not very. Maybe for a few weeks in the summer but this was September and the light was clear and beautiful and I long to get to experience it again
But back to the image… I love how the white knickers fit across my hip and fact that you can clearly see the texture of the lace especially where it meets the skin on my thigh. The stretch marks, I think they are rather beautiful too. They look like lighting bolts running down my tummy, and yet I found myself feeling shy about sharing this picture away. It feels oddly revealing and intimate and I don’t really have the words to explain why. It’s just the feelings it inspires in me
However when I wrote the prompt for Sinful Sunday last Autumn, which is textures in case you didn’t know, I knew exactly which pictures I was going to use. The one that showed off the textures of life, the little silver ribbons that decorate my belly. A reminder always of the journey me and my body have taken and still take together.
