“Vows are powerful things,” he said. “They set things in motion.” ~ John C. Wright
On Thursday we celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary. I can’t say that set things in motion because previous to us getting married we had been together for nearly 18 months prior to us getting married but that had been a long distance relationship with him the USA and me here in the UK. We travelled back and forth but after a year realised that we didn’t to keep doing that. Visas and other things were gradually sorted and a month after Michael moved permanently to the UK we were married so in many ways those vows definitely set a new chapter in motion.
So here we are 12 years later. On Thursday we went out for a Tapas lunch. The weather was perfect and we sat outside and the food was amazing. We had not been there before but we will definitely be back. “Happy Anniversary” I said to him once the food was laid out on the table and said the same back to me and then we started to tuck in.
“Are you glad you married me?” I asked as we ate
He looked up at me
“Yes, I am glad I married you. I am also very happy we are still married and I plan to spend the rest of my days being married to you.”
“Good. Me too” I replied
We have talked about renewing out wedding vows as I feel like the ones we made back then don’t capture where we are now. He is up for it, if I want to, but is also not bothered. He says that all that matters is we are committed to this life together and keep choosing each other every single day. The romantic in me kind of likes the idea of renewing our vows but also what he says there pretty much captures it perfectly.
On this day, on the next day, on the good days, on the hard days and all the other days in-between we love each other and pick to do this life with each other.
I can’t think of better words to be honest apart from maybe; No regrets. Onwards!
