“If I was taking an erotic photograph of you, I would ask you to…”
When I saw the prompt this week I was a little overwhelmed to be honest because I could literally write half a dozen or more posts about erotic photography and me. So what should I pick, where should I start, what is the answer to this actual question?
And then I read Brigit Delaney Sinful Sunday, My most naked reflection, where she talks about posting an intimate image of her vulva…
“maybe I fear that if I show photos likes this, they will be seen more as porn than as art, and since art is goal, I shy away from going this far.”
“At first, when I began considering my theme for this year’s FPF, I thought this would be my final shot…the big bang…the most revealing thing I could show. But, instead, I’ve decided to embed it, to take away its place as “crowning glory” of my “nakedness,” because really, this is not the most private part of me.”
And it got me thinking about my own thoughts on posting images of my vulva and this idea that genitals are inherently pornographic.
I think one of the first ever really graphic images of my cunt that I posted on my blog was this series, Camera, Crop, Cum. They were taken on one of Michael’s visits to the UK and I loved them but I can remember fretting over whether I should publish them or not. Obviously I went with throwing caution to the wind and shared them and I have never regretted for a moment any of the intimate images I have posted of myself. In fact just a couple of months after posting that series I started the Pussy Pride Project, a meme to encourage bloggers to share pieces about their genitals (please do join in if you wish) and to kick things off I shared this piece which was basically an ode to my cunt alongside a fairly close up shot of my pussy.
Over the years there have been many more, from the humorous and silly, Heigh-Ho, to the provocative, Being his Lolita, the seasonal, Behold, the abstract, The Essence of Things and the playful, Cherry Delight to name just a few but the one that I probably agonised over the most and really had to talk myself into posting was Challenging Sexy (contains graphic image of period blood). At the time I was worried that people would find it just too much, maybe even disgusting, even though I thought it had a raw beauty to it, but I needn’t have worried because the comments I got where all amazing, even those from people for whom it was not their thing, were still respectful and thoughtful. It remains to this day one of the images I am most proud of on my blog.
But is it, or any of the graphic pictures I have posted porn or art?
The answer to that is, yes. Because that depends on who is looking at them and in what context but I believe they are all art, some of them might make your cunt wet or your dick hard, that might even be their main purpose but that does not mean they are not also art. Art is meant to move you, it is meant to make you think or feel something, and that something might be arousal. It might not, it might be the opposite but that does not mean it is not art, good art often inspires complex reactions in people. For some people I know they would look at many of my pictures here, especially the ones of my genitals and declare them to be porn and they might be right, after all the questions of what is porn or what is art is equally complex to answer because it is so subjective. One man’s porn is another man’s art and vice versa.
But this is my blog and my body and I have long ago decided that my cunt is most definitely art.
