“Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right”
~ Here comes the sun by The Beatles
Clearly I didn’t take this image recently but I decided to use it this week as it is an almost perfect representation of the Rule of Thirds which is the prompt on Sinful Sunday this week. If you imagine the grid overlaid on the image the intersect would fall exactly where the centre of my hat is and as that is clearly the focus point of the image it therefore fits the brief perfectly.
A note about the Rule of Thirds. Despite it being called a rule it is viewed by many to be more a guideline but it is something worth familarising yourself with and always having in the back of your mind when you are taking a shot. Always ask yourself, does my shot fit the Rule of Thirds, if it doesn’t take, it anyway because rules are often best when broken but then if you have time see if you can take a second shot that does fit the rule. It is a great way to learn what effect it has on an image and will help you decide when to use it and when not.

The golden field reminds me of the sun-drenched days of early autumn — it’s my favorite time of year.
Lovely shot. Really really like that hat too. ?
such a warm and comforting shot – also i love the advise to take the shot anyway and compare …. and I agree … often a rule made to be broken
I’m guessing this is not the time to brag about the sunny day down here today! Love the photo, I couldn’t imagine getting away with being in someones field of wheat and not getting into big trouble. But then you’d probably melt any grumpy farmers heart wearing that outfit!

When you are about Molly it’s not just Here comes the Sun but more a case of Here comes the Fun. A wonderful phot, full of life and vitality. The wheat to be turned into flour and then to bread. The staff of life.
Such a beautiful picture! I remember first learning about the Rule of Thirds, and being surprised at how much of a difference it made in the majority of my photos. Even just cropping an old image from a smartphone to make it fit the Rule of Thirds can have a big effect.
As you say, it’s not a hard and fast rule, but it’s definitely helpful for people who want to up their smartphone picture game.
After the week I’ve had, this image does really brighten everything up.
