“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” ~ George R.R. Martin
Reading used to be part of life, it was my escapism from the everyday that mainly bored me. I read all the time. At one point I even went to a book group which I loved. However when I started blogging my focus shifted slightly and gradually overtime I found myself writing more than I read and what I did read was mostly online not that there is anything wrong with that mind you, reading is reading but I miss books. There is something special about a book, they are both relaxing and exciting at the same time. I love the way they smell, I love the promise they hold before you start them and the satisfaction I feel when I finish them. I love how they transport me to different lives, places and sometimes even different worlds.
So my Christmas vow has lead to a New Years promise to myself and that is to make more time in my very busy life for reading a book. Over Christmas I finished the one that is featured in this picture. It was wonderful to lay snuggled up warm on the sofa and read stories set in beautiful Greece. I am already half way through my next read, Sweet Little Lies by Caz Frear, which means I am well on my way to reading at least one book a month for the whole of 2018. I rarely set myself goals like that at the beginning of the year as I find I often fail and failing is not a nice feeling but I am determined to make reading books a part of my daily routine again.
