“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” ~ George R.R. Martin
One of things I promised myself over the Christmas break was to spend a day watching movies and reading my book. It is something I, we actually, had not managed to have time for in ages and it was blissful.
Reading used to be part of life, it was my escapism from the everyday that mainly bored me. I read all the time. At one point I even went to a book group which I loved. However when I started blogging my focus shifted slightly and gradually overtime I found myself writing more than I read and what I did read was mostly online not that there is anything wrong with that mind you, reading is reading but I miss books. There is something special about a book, they are both relaxing and exciting at the same time. I love the way they smell, I love the promise they hold before you start them and the satisfaction I feel when I finish them. I love how they transport me to different lives, places and sometimes even different worlds.
So my Christmas vow has lead to a New Years promise to myself and that is to make more time in my very busy life for reading a book. Over Christmas I finished the one that is featured in this picture. It was wonderful to lay snuggled up warm on the sofa and read stories set in beautiful Greece. I am already half way through my next read, Sweet Little Lies by Caz Frear, which means I am well on my way to reading at least one book a month for the whole of 2018. I rarely set myself goals like that at the beginning of the year as I find I often fail and failing is not a nice feeling but I am determined to make reading books a part of my daily routine again.

I have planned to do this too – read more actual paper books. I won’t manage one a month so I admire you for picking such a goal. I love the sunshine in your image – I almost feel like winter is finally going x
yeah, i am with u on this – gorgeous photo BTW – but I grew up reading with a torch under my covers when I was meant to be asleep. Tried to install it in my kids and try to get back to it every so often. Difficult in this life of technology, but so important. x
Oh snap! Me too! I was always in trouble for that.
Over the holidays I read a couple of books and this weekend I read two more. It was heavenly! I love to read and love books but in 2017, my reading was more for business than pleasure and it was nice to curl up with a book just because I could. ??
I read 70 books in 2017 (yes, I tracked them!), and I can’t imagine a life without words bound in pulp. Best of luck with your reading goal! 🙂
Wow that’s AMAZING!
I’m such a slow reader, I’m so envious of this ?
I need to follow your example and read more. Your words resounded with me here.
This should be my resolution too – I used to read voraciously, and now almost nothing. I love this pic – conjures up images of summer holidays…
sunshine, nudity, and a good book. Perfection…

It took me a minute to work out the first image – tired brain. I’ve started carrying books with me to appointments etc better than checking my messages every five minutes.
Love the red toenails! I could see you in Greece on a sun lounge.
You’d have loved it here yesterday over 42 degrees at the Oasis.

Even if you don’t end up reading an average of a book a month, it won’t be a failure – it will be a successful attempt at reading more than you usually do, and giving your brain a well-deserved escape. 🙂 I love the beautiful lighting!
I love the photo, the way the sun catches the fine hair on your leg makes me want to run my hand over it.
I have to join the list of folk agreeing. I’m not sure why I stopped, I used to love reading.
This is lovely Molly.
Reading for me is a luxury. I feel so decadent if I read in the daytime. So silly. I didn’t make any resolutions but maybe I should make it to read more books in the day x
Wow, this looks so tranquil…love it!
I usually read a lot, in fact I used to write a book blog, but as I got more into my blogging I found I was writing instead of reading, or reading short stories of erotica rather than a whole novel, which echoes what you said. I too ahall try to get back to more reading and I will be interested to see what pages you’re turning.
Hope you can find the time to relax more & enjoy reading a few books this year.
Nothing sexier than showing some skin and a book
I’m with you, Molly. I found that I’ve got barely time to myself and it was an eye-opener. It’s so easy to forget about You. I never do the New Years resolutions because they don’t work for me as well but simple promise to yourself is fair and an honest reminder – You are important! Reading books – yes I’m back to them as well:) Love the pattern on your sexy legs. It’s so intimate. Gorgeous as always.
Glorious image which fills me with longing for time and warmth and space to be naked and read in the sun. Just that and only that would be really lovely.
The image radiates warmth and relaxation and even love.
And I love your New Year’s resolution. It’s something I should consider too, getting back to reading. Allowing myself the time to sit back and do nothing else than lose myself in the story between the pages. But… for now, I still cannot find the rest.

Happy reading!
Totally agree . . . there is something about holding a thick one in your hands . . . a book I mean!!!
Only seem to find the time to read when I’m on my hols nowadays though!

Great minds think alike! Although I think your setting was far warmer than mine!
I do like real books too, the feel and smell is just wonderful but all my new ones are on the Kindle now, it’s just easier to carry around with me.
I hear you! I got so behind with my reading once I started working from home. I set a target for the first time last year and it made me read sooooo much more. Xx
The white sheets and the beautiful light and shadows lend a feeling of such serenity to this photo. I, too have a goal to read more this year. Actually, I’m sticking with my same goal from last year, two per month. But I also listen to books on audio and count them, as well. Reading more is always a good goal. And I get it, the more we lend our lives to writing, the less time we have for much else in the “hobby” category. I basically do nothing besides write, read, and hang out with my family. I squeeze in a bit of time to exercise and do some housework…and then there is that dastardly day job that gets in the way of everything. We lead such busy lives. Reading is such an escape from it all.
