Gotta Catch Em All

Last week Pokemon Go launched itself into our lives. Like many of these things people seemed to be somewhat divided on the subject but my kids jumped straight into it and I decided to join them and see what all the fuss was about.

To be honest I kind of enjoyed it but I very quickly realised that too much Poke-hunting and my data was going to be very quickly chewed up. I wasn’t that taken with the idea that I wanted to use my allowance up and so like many things, moderation seemed to be the order of the day.

Then this happened on Twitter

Surely Pokemon Go hunting should be, could be, a fabulous Scavenger Hunt location.

However as your camera is taken up with allowing you catch the Pokemon it was going to be necessary to capture the image as a screen shot. This was not going to be something I could manage on my own. Luckily I have a partner in crime who not only is happy to come Scavenger Hunting with me but is also work out how to take a screen grab on my phone while the camera is on.

Armed with this knowledge and a kids free weekend, off we set out into the neighbourhood to find me some Pokemon. Finding them was the easy part, finding them in a location that was not outside the shops, or a church, or someone’s front garden was a whole other matter. Friday was a failure, Saturday was a failure too but then Sunday afternoon in a side street behind the Library we found one that was lurking behind a hedge. Sadly the moment we clicked on the Pokemon in the game it jumped out from behind the hedge onto the pavement but this stage I was fed up with being thwarted. Handing the phone to Michael I tucked myself in as close to the hedge as I could and waited for him to tell me to, well, flash. When he did, I did.

Annoyingly my phone was not hugely happy about what we were asking it to do; run the camera, play an online game and take a screen capture all at the same time and promptly crashed on us. Once it recovered we went for it again but by this time we had been lurking so long in front of these houses that a lady appeared from a couple of doors and asked us if we were OK. We managed to convince her were fine and just hunting Pokemon. Which was absolutely the truth as you can see…

So Jade, can Pokemon Go be a new location on the Scavenger hunt list, please?

OMG Molly, this is brilliant. Now of course all of us will have to play (I do) and try to manage a similar scavenger hunt. Great idea!!!

I don’t recall seeing that type of Pokemon Go before. I’ll have to check the shrubbery more closely.

I’ve been hearing all kinds of chatter about Pokemon this week, most of which has gone in one ear and out the other.

After seeing this image, however; NOW I’m fascinated. 😉

Such a fun photo! 🙂
