Tomorrow the Top 100 Sex Bloggers 2015 list will be published here. However before that happens I wanted to write a separate post to cover some of the housekeeping required and to say a few words of thanks to some people.
When I took this project on I knew it was going to be a big task but I really wasn’t prepared for quite how big it actually is. I have always had huge respect for Rori when it comes to putting this list together every year but having now done it myself I can confidently say that my respect was not misplaced. Rori has committed herself to this project for 7 years and trust me when I say it is a huge commitment. It takes quite literally hours and hours of reading which must then be converted into some sort of meaningful scoring system at the end of which you have a good outline of how the list will look but it does not end there. The list then requires tweaking, which often results in more reading and research having to be done until you finally get to a 100 that you feel confident about. The work continues though, there is badge to make and finally a post that not only requires writing but formatting in such a way that it is accessible to readers and can be reposted by bloggers if they so wish. I am not asking for your sympathy in this matter but I am writing this in attempt to acknowledge the huge amount of work that Rori has put into creating this list year after year and I hope that my efforts to continue the list in her absence will do justice to her work that has gone before.
So some thank you’s.
First and most importantly of all to Rori herself for her words of wisdom that she shared with me and her enthusiastic encouragement that I take on this project, without which I would probably not have considered doing it. Also I should mention Ariel who passed on my original message to Rori and really got the ball rolling.
Secondly to my darling husband @domsigns who not only read through every single blog with me so that I had someone to discuss them all with but also made the badge and bought his tech superpowers to the party when it came to formatting the post.
Thirdly to Ruby Goodnight and Girl On The Net for offering impartial expert opinions when we were undecided if a site was indeed a sex blog or not. Their assistance and support has been invaluable.
And finally to all the bloggers themselves. Despite the fact that this has been a huge task I have thoroughly enjoyed it and that is down to you lot because I have had the pleasure of reading so much fucking awesome sex writing that my kinky sex positive heart is simply overflowing with love for this diverse, creative, thought-provoking and intelligent community that I immensely proud to be a part of.
Now for some housekeeping about the list itself.
- The poll that I conducted on whether the list should be alphabetical after the top 10 or numbered all the way to 100 was hugely in favour of a full numbered/ranked list and so that is what you are going to get
- Each blog was given a score out of 10 in the following 4 areas: Blog design, About Me Page, Content and my Personal Score. More details about what each of those categories covered can be found on this post. Top 100 Sex Blogs Redux.
- Why am I not on the list? Well there could be a number of reasons for this most of which are covered in Rori’s post on this subject, Why wasn’t I named a top sex blogger so please do go and read that but the main reasons that people did not make the list were; they fell below the minimum 24 posts in 2015 cut off point, they had not been blogging a year, their blog was password protected, their blog was mainly or even solely reblogged content, or they have retired their blog.
- To those who say, I don’t like your list! Well I am sorry about that. As Rori always said herself, “if you do not like my list then feel free to make your own”. I have worked very hard indeed to not make this a popularity contest but to score each and every blog fairly, and with as much of an unprejudiced eye as I can, based on the quality of their blog and content. I have spent hours not only reading but agonizing over the scores in the hope that the list will reflect this but as with all things I am fully aware that you can not please all of the people all of the time. Trying to do so would only mean that the list would never get produced.
Finally I want to mention two bloggers who have been long-standing members of the community that we sadly lost in 2015: Curvaceous Dee and Dumb Domme. Sadly Dee’s blog is completely closed and so you can’t read her many years of fabulous sex blogging content but Dumb Domme’s site is still there in all its glory. In addition I also want to mention Jade from Kink and Poly. Early in 2015 tragedy befell her beautiful poly relationship with the sudden death of her partner W. Understandably she closed her blog while she coped with the devastating changes in her life. She has now reopened Kink and Poly but more importantly she is now back actively blogging on a new site: Pieces of Jade. I am sure you will join me in wishing her well with her new venture and with life in general as she continues to cope with her grief and explore her changed world.
I think that just about covers it. Now all that is left to do is to actually publish the list and for that you will have to wait until tomorrow.
