Lips Like Cherry Wine

Let’s talk about food and sex, sex and food. Do they go together like cherry wine or should they taken separately?

*This is not written by me (Molly) but is a rare piece of writing by my wonderful husband @domsigns

“The world pampers the body with food and material comforts,” she said. “They appease the flesh but are enemies of the spirit. Abstinence is a bridle that gives the spirit a chance in the eternal quarrel with the body.”
~ The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson

In spite of the fact that the above quote seems to place denial (not that denial can’t be sexy) above the material needs of the body, the book contains long glorious descriptive passages about food and the joy of eating. The characters revel in the sensual pleasure of eating to an almost sexual level. The Gargoyle is the story of a man who is denied the former pleasures of his life and plans to end it because he can see no reason to continue on. He is shown that life has countless pleasures to offer even if many of the ones we take for granted are lost to him.

Now I am not a fan of combining sex and food, the scene from 9 ½ weeks with Micky Rourke and Kim Basinger playing with food in the kitchen doesn’t really work for me (us really, as Molly has confirmed while I write this) using food during sex can be fraught with issues, it can be messy and sticky, and not in a good way, food and vaginas can be problematic, upsetting the natural PH balance is never a good thing, not to mention the post sex cleanup, but you can see the connection. Now we have done sexual play that includes food that Molly has written about in the post Special Sauce (Trigger Warning: contains a photo of my cock) but it is not a regular trip to the store, if you will, for us.

For me the relationship between food and sex comes down to meeting your needs and fulfilling your hunger. With both sex and food it can be limited to those basic functions, but when practiced well it can be so very much more. We even use common language in both activities. We “hunger for each other” and are “consumed by desire” We bite, lick, taste and swallow (at this point I no longer know which I am talking about) there are juices and texture and sensations, whew, I think I may need a few minutes to collect myself. We even use the language of food to describe body parts. Lips like strawberries, apple cheeks, peachy bum, milky white skin and so many more. It is very easy to see that we have a lot of crossover between these very different activities and it is equally easy to see why, they are both, when done artfully, so much more than filling our bellies and slaking our lust!

However you look at it, Food and Sex will always be intertwined in the human psyche and to that I can only say…

Bon Appétit!

First of all, the image is so incredibly sexy!

Then, I love that @domsigns has pointed out how close food and sex is, in the way we describe several parts of the body. Great post 🙂

I love your comparison that both food and sex can range from basic functions to artful mastery. That’s a really helpful way to view it. Thank you! And yeah, way lovely photo. ~M
