To the Lighthouse

Last week we were kids free and the weather was perfect for some exploration. Sadly towards the end of the week I got ill and spent the rest of it in bed but before the germs got me we did manage a couple of trips out and a Scavenger Hunt location that I had not expected to find in London.

Trinity Buoy Wharf is home to the only Lighthouse in London. It was built in 1864 alongside an already existing Lighthouse that has since been demolished. They were used by Michael Faraday for some of his experiments and to train prospective lighthouse keepers. Today the Lighthouse no longer functions as a Lighthouse but is currently home to a art-project called Longplayer – which is a piece of music intend to play for 1000 years.

My original plan for visiting the site was to try to get some images for my 365 Project as I had assumed that its location in London would mean Scavenger hunting would just not be possible but visiting on Easter Sunday turned out to be a brilliant idea because despite most of England being closed on that day the Lighthouse was open to visitors and the only visitors that seemed to be around were us…

Flashing bottom at Trinty Wharf lighthouseHowever you can not really claim to have done a Lighthouse if you have not got to the top and flashed your wares…. *If you look out of the window with me you can see the view over East London and the Airline cable car that runs from Greenwich to the Royal Docks.

Woohoo! A lighthouse. I almost visited several last week but instead visited battlefields and military museums.
Great job getting the pictures done!

Simply love this location – and the third pic really makes it (what a view!).

I love the location. I wish I could be that free, but for now, I’ll watch you be uninhibited.
