My 20 of 2013

by Molly Moore
20 of 2013 Badge

If you are a regular reader here you will know that last year I published my 20 of 2012 list.

So a tradition has been born it would seem and here we are with what seems like only a blink of an eye later, and it is time to write a new list for 2013. As before I am sticking with 20 blogs as I feel that is a genuine reflection of my regular ‘blog reading for pleasure’ habits. However as I have said many times before I firmly believe that the sex blogging community is awash with talented, interesting, creative, sexy people and I take great pride in being part of this community.

The list is not in any particular order hence there are no numbers, but I have included a few words about why I have chosen each one and also a link to their twitter profile, if they have one.

The Big Ugly

Lauralyn and I have been online friends for many years now but 2013 was the year that we finally got to meet in person at Eroticon USA. It was amazing to actually spend some time with her talking about life and of course self-portrait photography. Her session at the conference was, without a doubt, my highlight of the whole day and her blog remains one of my all time favourites. She is currently taking a creative pause but don’t let that put you off, her blog is jam-packed with amazing work for you to enjoy and I hope that the New Year will have her back with renewed enthusiasm.

Kink and Poly

When I wrote last years list Jade was in the middle of a blog redesign which saw her combining all her projects under the one title of ‘Kink and Poly’. She was previously featured on this list as ‘Pieces of Jade’. Since her redesign she has gone from strength to strength not only continuing to write about her amazing life with her two partners but also introducing a new weekly meme, that warms my deviant heart; Kink of the Week. @piecesofjade

Rebel’s Notes

Rebel’s blog remains one of my all time favourites. We have so much in common and I find my own thoughts and feeling often reflected in her words. In addition her weekly meme, Wicked Wednesday, continues to grow offering a positive and rewarding community for sex bloggers to share their work. @Rebelsnotes

Remittance Girl

When I grow up I want to be RG, or maybe that should say I want to be able to write like RG. In my opinion you won’t find better written erotica anywhere else on the net. Oh and I also highly recommend her twitter. @remittancegirl

Stranded In Toronto

Another blog that has seen a big redesign since last years list and, like Lauralyn above, another of my long-term blogging friends that I finally got to meet in 2013 at Eroticon USA. His work remains top quality and his prolific writing is something that makes me envious. He remains the master of the stories with a twist at the end. I am currently totally addicted to his Welcome To My Bubble series and am rather excited to see that he too is about to start a new monthly writing meme; The Darker Flame    @stranded_in_to

Behind The Chintz Curtain

A new blog on the list this year. I was fortunate enough to meet Jane at this years Eroticon2013 in London and from that a friendship with her and her husband blossomed, but this list is about blogs and Jane’s has become one of my favourite reads. I have even penned some words for her in her post about erotic pain. She is a talented writer, both fiction and non-fiction. She has a strong sense of self which comes through in her work and her self photography is a delight. She has recently left our shores and returned to her native New Zealand so her blog has been a little quiet the last month or so but don’t let that put you off as I am fairly sure 2014 will see her return with her usual fabulous style and grace. @ChintzCurtain

Alison Tyler

Another new one this year and not a sex blog in the traditional sense of the word. Although the main thrust (I know she will like me using that word) of her blog is related to her work as a writer and anthology editor she actually uses her blog creatively, not only to share the little things that buzz around inside her head but to help foster and support and the writing community. I love her ‘What’s on your bookshelf’ project. It speaks to the nosy parker in all of us and her Smut Marathon was one of my writing highlights of 2013. @AlisonTyler

Kink etc…

Watching Lori blossom as a blogger and photographer over the last year has been one of my guilty pleasures. She is a remarkable woman and again someone I was delighted to meet at Eroticon USA. Her blog is a fabulous mixture of sex toy reviews, kink and personal stories but what really captures me is watching her develop as a self-portrait photographer and her amazing rope work that is all self-taught. @loriandhubby

A Dissolute Life Means…

I have found myself increasingly visiting Hy’s blog as the year has gone on. The ongoing story of her and ‘The Neighbour’ is addictive reading, at times hot steamy and passionate and  at others times riddled with her worries and anxiety about their developing relationship. However I also want to mention her wonderful Boobday meme which was set up as “a place for us to honor breasts of all shapes and sizes belonging to all types of folks.” in the hope that it would become a big old celebration of breasts. I have contributed mine on a few occasions now and would love to see lots more people joining in this wonderful body positive project. @adissolutelife

Dumb Domme

Another one from last years list who continues to be one of my favourite reads. She is a truly excellent writer who explores her D/s kink with great honesty and self-awareness. She also has a real flare for writing about the funny aspects of kink/life which I love. After all, if it’s not fun why are you doing it?! However it is not all funny, as increasingly her writing has turned to thoughts of the impending separation and potential ending of her relationship with ‘J’ @DumbDomme

Penny For Your (DIRTY) Thoughts

Penny has really captured my attention this year with her photography. I am a very visual person and a big fan of self-portrait photography in particular and Penny has great talent when it comes to this. She is a beautiful young woman and her photography displays this with a creative style that I truly admire. @pennysblog

My Dissolute Life

There is a lot of sex writing on the internet but very little of it comes with the raw and frank self honesty that N. Likes delivers in his writing. If you are new to his site then I suggest you start with this page; My Story. After that it is up to you but I warn you now, this man rarely pulls his punches, but then that is exactly why he is on my list. @nlikes

Malflic

There is a lack of male voice in the sex blogging world in my opinion but not on Malflic.com. This is multi-author site that does have one female contributor, Alice, but the vast majority of the content comes from a heady masculine combination of Lord Raven, who writes darkly savage erotica, and Malflic himself, a dapper suited gentleman with a deviant wicked streak. Malflic is an intelligent accomplished writer, who refuses to take himself too seriously and yet commands your attention when he writes. I like my men to look like gentleman and behave like gentlemen too, until such time as the gentlemen can be discarded for something darker. Both Lord Raven and Malflic fit this description perfectly, in person and in their blog. @Malflic @Lord Raven69 @WildChild69

The Perverted Negress

If you are in any way inclined within the D/s spectrum then this blog should be on your reading list. Mollena has been blogging for many years and now works within the kink community as an educator. Her blog never fails to have me nodding in agreement (in fact I have been known to shout out ‘Yes, exactly that!’, when reading it) and I regularly find myself tweeting out her posts to everyone as required reading for all D/s types. @mollena

Curvaceous Dee

I have been reading Dee’s blog now for a very long time, in fact she was one of the very first sex blogs I stumbled across when I first started my own. She is most definitely on my ‘people I want to meet one day’ list. She is also the host of the Scavenger Hunt, I think everyone knows how I feel about that fabulous meme. In my mind she is the undisputed Queen of the Scavenger Hunt as her photographs always show a woman who is quite frankly having the time of her life. Her images, Scavenger Hunt and otherwise, portray a confident, happy woman, totally at ease in her body, having fabulous sexy fun. If anyone out there sums up the message that sex and kink are fun then it is Dee! @CurvaceousDee

A Slut’s Memoir

I don’t call this woman my Slut Hero for nothing you know! She is one of the bravest (sometimes ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ crazy) women I know and her blog is a wonderfully honest reflection of that. Sometimes her posts make for challenging reading but it is that sheer blunt honesty and self-awareness that I love. @iSlut_

A Curious Muse

I am sure Muse won’t mind me saying that this year has been a sporadic year for her when it comes to her blog but despite some gaps in her schedule her writing continues to capture my attention. In particular the last couple of months have seen her writing some amazing short prose/poetry that I highly recommend. @curiousmuse1

Off Go The Panties – Sadly this blog seems to be no more

Unlike many of the other blogs on this list, Off Go The Panties is a new discovery of mine. I thank e[lust] for that. Her content is a real mix of stuff but for me it is the posts about her NSA dating and her thoughts on writing and sex blogging that have really captured me as a reader. I look forward to seeing where 2014 takes her.

Sex and Censorship

Not a sex blog per se and yet a site that is hugely relevant to everyone who works within the adult industry and in particular within the UK but regardless of where you are in the world, the increasing move to block and censor adult content as something unsavory should strike a chord with us all. Yes this site focuses on the current issues within the UK but as I have said before, don’t be fooled by that and think your country won’t follow in our insanely worrying footsteps. @PornPanic

Love Hate Sex Cake

Every time I visit this blog I come away wanting to reach for my own camera. Her photography is, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful shot self-portrait work around and the marriage between her images and her hauntingly beautiful and longingly filled prose is exquisite @LoveHateSexCake

From the mouth of BabeFiend

This one is a very new blog all things considered but she has stepped into the blogging scene with remarkable grace and truly captured my attention. Her images are smokin hot and her writing is filled with an honest raw thread that I particularly admire. I hope that 2013 is just the beginning for her in the blogging world and that 2014 will see her continue to write and develop as an exciting new voice on the sex blogging scene. @babefiend

***

Phew, that was some task I can tell you but it is worth the hard work to publish a list that I feel is honest and truthful.

This years list is THIS years list and in no way cancels out last years 20. I still stand by that list just as much as I do this one. There are some which have made it to both and some which have not, that is not a reflection on their work or content but on my reading habits. Those 20 from last year still remain regular reads of mine and blogs that I highly recommend you check out. Oh and I would like to also make a special mention to two of them which have sadly been retired in the last year; Hubman’s Hangout and At Longings End both of which I miss greatly.

One final word on Sex blogging. It is a term that encompasses a great deal of sites covering a huge variety of adult related topics but that somehow manages to still be a strong and, maybe most of all, innovative community of free thinkers and bold creatives that I am continually proud to be a part of. If you are not on my list that doesn’t mean I don’t think you rock because I do, without YOU there would be no community, no voice of sexual expression and freedom. Much of the world would love to silence this community in order to further its own moral bigoted agenda. Free thinkers and sexual libertarians somehow threaten their existence and as individuals our voice is small but as a community we have the power to be heard. I hope that 2014 continues to see that being the case.

If you are on the list I have designed a snazzy little badge which you are more than welcome to display on your blog if you so wish. (You will need to click on the badge in order to download it, if you have any problems let me know and I can email it to you and yes, you can resize it!) If you wish to re-post and or link back to the list then that would be fabulous but it’s entirely up to you.

20 of 2013 Badge

And finally to you all, readers, bloggers, friends and my darling husband with whom it has been another wonderful year, I wish you a very Happy and sex filled 2014!
