Putting it All on the Line

I am a bit old-fashioned when it comes to drying the laundry. I like to avoid using the tumble dryer as much as possible. As far as I am concerned it is a waste of expensive electricity not to mention very environmentally unfriendly. So I hang my washing out to dry on a line as much as possible.

Now England is fairly damp and rainy country but even so I don’t think I have used my tumble dryer since about April and if I am lucky I might get through to October without it. Even when I do start using it again I will still hang washing out if and when I can. I have been known to hang stuff out in the middle of December.

When Michael moved here I discovered that this washing line business was fairly foreign to him. He watched with bemusement and muttered something about his Grandmother. However when it broke he happily set about replacing it with a pulley style system that now means I no longer have to walk on the grass to get it all off the line. The other joy of this new fangled modern system is that even if my neighbours are in, I can move the line along, and don’t have to walk down the garden to get to it all, I can hang out my washing, and get in again, completely naked. Although rarely in December because it might be dry but it definitely won’t be warm enough for this sun worshiper.
