Animal Farm

by Molly Moore

I have a couple of favourite routes that I tend to frequent for my walks at the moment. They are both old disused railway lines that are now public footpaths. Most of my outdoor images over the few weeks have been taken on one or other of these routes. Both pathways have lots of gates, fields and other footpaths that branch off from them and now and then I head down one to see where it takes me. Sadly the knee-high mud through the woods and many of the fields means that quite a few will have to wait for spring/summer before I can check them out.

Yesterday it was sunny for the first time in ages and so I set off on one of my usual routes not really expecting to take any selfie shots as Sundays tend to be tricky with too many walkers, cyclists and families but just in case, I did wear something inappropriately appropriate beneath my walking clothes.

I have passed this little series of steps many times but so far they have remained unexplored. However in a bid to get of the main track and away from prying eyes I decided to venture up them and see where they led me and boy was I glad I did.

Steps on the footpath

At the top there was a little track and directly across sitting on the edge of a field without a fence in sight was what appeared to be some sort of farm building. (you can just see the roof at the top of the steps if you look closely) Immediately my eyes lit up and the possibility of a Scavenger Hunt leapt to mind, so I crossed the track and headed round the building to see what secrets it held hoping that maybe some farm equipment might be stored there as I knew that was one of the locations on the Scavenger Hunt list. When I rounded the corner and saw what was in front of me I think I actually gave an excited little squeal because, all lined up in a row looking at me with big daft eyes, were this little lot.

Cows all lined up in a row

After taking a few practice shots and generally hanging around to see if some angry farmer might appear and accuse me of scaring his livestock I finally decided that the coast was clear and it was just me and the cows.

Notice the little peek of my walking socks in this one…

But they were very accommodating and continued to stand in a perfect line throughout the whole thing.

I am hoping that Curvaceous Dee will allow this as a new location, I am suggesting either ‘Farm Animals’ or ‘Livestock’. What say you MIss Dee?

This is my 47th Scavenger Hunt location. You can see all my completed locations so far on my Scavenger Hunt page.

PS: And I definitely need a new camera so I can use a remote too. My camera is too old for a remote.

Love this so much! I used to walk past a field of cows on my way to work every day, while living out in the middle of nowhere – wish I’d thought of doing something like this at the time!

Molly (hee – I typed ‘Moo’ly the first time!) this is a great location, and awesome photos! I’ve chosen to go with ‘livestock’, as that way they don’t have to be on the farm. Love it 🙂
